SCHOOLS PROGRAMME – Growing Grains, Milling and Baking (Phase 2 – Harvest)

397 397 people viewed this event.
This project is based on a local tradition (lost in the 1800s) of making sower cakes from wheat and oats grown in Rutherglen at the local mill.
This is the second stage of the process, when children will harvest the wheat and oats.
This project will take place across the whole year beginning with the building of wheat planters and culminating in a story telling event where children will make and bake bread from the produce they have grown. This project aims to be an insight into growing food, bread making processes and ancient traditions.
