As part of Rutherglen 900, Waste/Land/Futures invites Ruglonians of all ages to think as an ancestor. Throughout June and July, come write or design a postcard for future generations; the people who will call Rutherglen home 100 years from now.
Visit the Postcards to the Future stall at Striding the Streets or pop into your local library in Rutherglen or Springhall to get involved. Write a traditional postcard featuring local landmarks or create your own design – there’ll be materials and creative prompts provided to spark ideas and help you shape your message for future generations.
The postcards will be collected and shared later in the year. In November, there’ll be a public talk exploring what today’s Ruglonians want to pass on.
Waste/Land/Futures is a European research project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. In the UK, the research team consists of Melanie Lovatt and Rozemarijn de Kwaasteniet from the University of Stirling and Susan Watkins and Hannah Spruce from Leeds Beckett University.
