‘Striding the Streets’ is a new, spectacular day-time community parade to celebrate 900 years of Rutherglen. A procession featuring local people from our community, host Jack McGinty, travelling music with Oi Musica, giant horse puppets, a new R900 community banner, flags designed by Rutherglen schools and of course Dougie the Pigeon! The parade will culminate in Overtoun Park for a two-hour party of live music, dance, performance and community activities.
The ‘Striding the Streets’ Parade is designed for local residents to watch from windows, doorsteps and the pavement from 2pm. On our route map we’ve circled locations to where you can safely stand to view the parade as it moves through your area and towards its final destination at Overtoun Park. Look out for our ‘Striding the Streets’ signs along the route that will guide you to where you can enjoy and cheer on! To keep everyone safe we kindly ask that you do not follow behind the parade.
After the parade, join the ‘Party in the Park’ from 2.45pm for a feel‑good celebration of Rutherglen 900 with:
